Nicolaas Twint

I was born in Amsterdam in 1966. I came in contact with art at an early age, because my father Simon Twint and my great uncle Willi Könn were both freelance artists who achieved outstanding notoriety. Early childhood experiences in these surroundings, including the daily smell of oil paint and turpentine, certainly have contributet to art and especially painting becomming my passion, wich has accompanied me throughout my whole life. 

But before I could focus on my passion, life had something else planned for me. I decided i want to go to the sea and explore the world when I was 17. After that I worked in the steel construction with some great people for many years and experienced what hard work really means. Getting older, I decided that a change was needed and started to work in the social sector. This was a defining part of my life. I witnessed strokes of fate, family dramas, abuse and destroyed childhoods. I was also working as an martial arts instructor and risked my head driving racing motorcycle. 

Life always had a turn for me and I really think I have loved, I have hated and i have lived. Especially loved because I was blessed to raise three wonderful children. At long last i have found my way back to my real passion and great love: art and painting. I finally settled on leaving my normal work-life behind and became an freelance artist based in Düren near Cologne (Germany), two years ago.

After seeing heaven and hell in this world with my own eyes, I asked myself:
What else could an artist wish for than to work with those experiences and create from it?
